Septime runs a grand Parisian restaurant, flattering customers (unless they’re German) and bullying his staff. Novalès, a chef from a Latin American country on a state visit to France, comes for dinner and is served a house specialty, a flambéed dessert. When Septime lights it, it explodes.
Once the smoke clears, the president has disappeared. The police, led by the commissioner, initially believe that Septime organized the kidnapping. When they realize he’s innocent, they set him up as a decoy, expecting the kidnappers to contact him. They contact him and tell him to join them in the French Alps, where the police are following him. Enrique and Sophia, loyal collaborators of Novalès, also follow Septime in an attempt to find their boss. After a chase through the snowy mountains, Septime leads the kidnappers into the hands of the police. Free and back in Paris, he is kidnapped and sent to the Mediterranean coast. In a beautiful garden, he meets Novalès, who has arranged his own kidnapping so he can take a vacation. But he knows he’ll have to return to his duties, and back in Paris, he credits Septime with finding him. Having come with his colleagues for a final celebratory dinner at Septime’s restaurant, they are served the special flambé dessert. When Septime lights it, it explodes again.
