Description of this Shining Movie Poster
The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist Diane Johnson. The film is based on the 1977 novel of the same name by Stephen King and stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, and Danny Lloyd. The film’s central character is Jack Torrance (Nicholson), an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic who takes an off-season job as a caretaker at the historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. His wife, Wendy Torrance (Duvall), and young son, Danny Torrance (Lloyd), spend the winter with Jack. Danny is gifted with the “shining,” psychic abilities that allow him to see into the hotel’s horrific past. The hotel’s cook, Dick Hallorann (Crothers), also possesses this ability and can communicate with Danny telepathically. The hotel had a previous winter caretaker who went mad and killed himself and his family. After a winter storm leaves the Torrances snowed in, Jack’s sanity deteriorates under the influence of the supernatural forces inhabiting the hotel, putting his wife and son in danger.
