Description of this Le Touquet Paris Plage Poster
Created by Pierre Commarnmond in 1915, this vintage advertising poster is dedicated to Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. The view from above, appearing to come from a forest, highlights several of the town’s curiosities, in particular the large beach, the Church and the Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc gardens. It’s a safe bet that such a viewpoint is not real: this is typical of the artists’ methods to give an air of proximity to the countryside. In the background, the colors of the setting sun give magnificent orange colors to the waters of the English Channel. The indications show the qualities of the place, especially its proximity to Paris which has given it the nickname “Paris-Plage”.
