Description of this Brigitte Bardot Movie Poster

Will you dance with me? is a 1959 French-Italian drama film directed by Michel Boisrond and starring Brigitte Bardot.

Against the wishes of her wealthy industrialist father, Albert, young Virginie (Brigitte Bardot) marries dentist Hervé Dandieu (Henri Vidal). After three months, the passion has faded, and after an argument, Hervé leaves home to go drinking at a club. There, he is seduced by Anita Florès (Dawn Addams), a redheaded dance instructor. Unbeknownst to him, Anita is a con artist who has sent her boyfriend Léon (Serge Gainsbourg) to photograph her and Hervé. Although Hervé ultimately decides to remain faithful to his wife, Léon manages to take pictures of their intimate moments.

Hervé doesn’t give in to any of Léon’s blackmail attempts until she calls him one evening. Virginie and Albert overhear the conversation, and Virginie concludes that her husband is having an affair. The next day, she follows him to Anita’s dance studio and, looking through the keyhole, sees Anita’s murdered body next to Hervé, who is holding a gun. Hervé convinces her that he is not guilty, and they flee the scene through the back door, although they are noticed by some of the staff. To prove her husband’s innocence, she charms Anita’s husband, Florès (Darío Moreno), into hiring her as a dance instructor so she can find out more information. While walking through the studio, Virginie catches Léon stealing money from his wallet and overhears a conversation between Léon and his mistress, Daisy (Maria Pacôme), who intend to deceive the detectives. After several investigations by the inspectors, Virginie is convinced she has found the murderer thanks to a letter. According to her, it is Gérard Lalemand. Since the inspectors don’t believe her, she decides to contact Gérard herself. She speaks to him on the phone and sets up an appointment, but when he doesn’t show up, she locates his home, where she is informed that Mr. Lalemand has been dead for over three years. Virginie realizes she has been speaking to Gérard’s son (Georges Descrières), who is the same charming homosexual she met earlier at the studio.

Meanwhile, Léon has been arrested for blackmailing Hervé. He admits he is the mysterious person who left the studio through the roof on the night of the murder, but claims Hervé is the culprit. To Hervé’s surprise, Albert proves his innocence to the inspectors. Meanwhile, Virginie believes she has found Lalemand at Blue Fetish, a gay nightclub where he performs in drag under the name Daniel. Upon confronting him, she realizes that the man (Philippe Nicaud) is not Lalemand, and she leaves shortly after to return home.

There she discovers that the real Lalemand is an acquaintance of Florès and Daisy, who made a false statement when Lalemand was still a suspect. Virginie learns that Anita was the mistress of Lelemand’s father and that she had permission to benefit from Lelemand’s $50 million inheritance while he was still alive. Lalemand therefore sent his friend Daniel to kill Anita. Hervé’s innocence is proven, and he gratefully embraces his wife.
