Description of this Vintage Lyon Poster
Rogers Broders is behind this vintage advertising poster from 1920 for the Lyon fair. In the foreground, we can see the statue of a man on a lion, the symbol of the city of Lyon. In the background, we can see the Guillotère bridge as it existed before the German army destroyed it in 1944. In the background of the image, we can recognize the hills of Fourvière with the basilica above, as well as the dome of the Hôtel-Dieu. The advertising visual surprises with its particular colors: yellow and purple. The poster artist Broders created countless advertising works. His technique? He relied on postcards, and when necessary, he would travel to the location in question on an exceptional basis. The postcard he used to create this retro poster is famous, and the resemblance to Rogers’ work is striking. The only difference is that there is no statue on the card: this statue actually decorates the Lafayette Bridge.
